Siargao Islands Protected Landscapes and Seascapes (SIPLAS) commemorate its 23rd anniversary with a theme, “Moving Forward to a Sustainable and Pollution Free Community, a Treasure for Everybody” which highlights a week-long celebration which will be conducted on October 7-11, 2019. In support of this special event, series of activities were prepared which was participated by the major stakeholders of SIPLAS who have a crucial role and functions in managing and conserving its natural resources.

The opening for the weeklong activity was participated by the Mayor, MTO, MENRO, Punong Barangay, as well as representatives from Academe (e.q. SSCT), NGOs (e.q. RARE Philippines and SIKAT), and NGAs (e.q. Coast Guard and PNP Maritime).. A simultaneous Thematic Session about Fishery and Coastal Management, Ecotourism, Upland Management, and Solid Waste Management in SIPLAS were also conducted during the summit.

Simultaneous Estero/Community Clean-up was conducted in nine (9) municipalities of SIPLAS on October 8, 2019. The said clean-up was participated by the Barangay LGUs and communities with a representative from DENR PASu SIPLAS. The said activity was conducted to promote clean estero in SIPLAS.

Launching of the Sub-national Campaign Brand at Pilar, Surigao del Norte with introduction of Bakjuana and Kata the Mascots that representative the Protected Area of Siargao.

A series of event, Huni sa SIPLAS: Songwriting and Singing contest and Sajaw sa SIPLAS Dance contest. The Huni para sa SIPLAS: Songwriting and Singing contest winning piece entitled, “SIPLAS” composed by Ms. Judi Salubre and interpreted by Ms. Cherry Mae Orejas shall become the official SIPLAS Campaign Song.

Mural painting was conducted at the Bayay Numancia, Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte. The said mural painting was initiated by RARE Philippines through the famous Muralist Ag Saño.

Fisherfolks Day was celebrated wherein Fisherfolks ID’s were given to 118 registered fisherfolks from different coastal barangays of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte. The said Identification card will serve as the Social Protection Support for the fisherfolks.
