In support to the celebration and observance of International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) Day 2021 with this year’s theme: “Understand and Beat Marine Pollution”, DENR CENRO Tubod under the management of CENRO Ruel E. Efren successfully conducted a coastal clean-up at Agoho Beach, Brgy. Nabago, Surigao City.
It was participated by forty-two (42) volunteers composed of fourteen (14) females and twenty-eight (28) males comprised with DENR personnel, fisherfolks, BLGU Officials, youth and local residents assigned in different groups and separate designated areas .
A total of 24 sacks with an estimated weight of 195 kilos were collected from the 1 kilometer stretch of beach. Waste products such as broken glasses of beverage bottles, clothes, debris from the non-functional boat, fish nets, and plastic cellophane (e.g. cellophane of diapers, junk foods, shampoos, and detergent) were segregated and counted before deposited to the collector’s truck. All the data gathered were compiled and documented on the ocean trash data form by Ocean Conservancy.
The ICC started per Presidential Proclamation No. 470 series of 2003 declaring the third Saturday of September of each year as the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day in observance of the Global Coastal Clean-up celebrations.
Proper health protocols were also observed during the conduct of the activity.
